The first edition of the annual survey: how music professionals used data, which tools they relied on, and where budgets were heading.
In 2021, music data analytics had gone from a handful of passion projects to one of the fastest-growing corners of the B2B music business. What nobody had done was map it.
This first edition of the annual State of Data survey set out to do that: assess how proficient the industry really was with data, and record how and why music professionals engage with it. Respondents span all three majors, plus indies, publishers, distributors, CMOs and music tech companies.
Inside: the goals and obstacles professionals reported, the tools in widest use, how the major segments of the business compare, and where they expected to invest next.
